An American Cherrywood and Cypress Armoire, c. 1785, a stepped cornice above panelled doors enclosing a medial two-drawer belt, also concealing two small secret drawers, and three shelves, on bracket feet of later date, period hardware, height 87 1/2in., width 45 1/2in., depth 18 1/2 in.
Note: To the present consignor from an Opelousas collection. Interestingly an inside door panel has a partial baptismal certificate of Cesaire Carruthers, and other family documents. Messr. Carruthers mother was from the early St. Landry Parish Nereaux family.
An armoire with similar door panels is illustrated in Early Furniture of Louisiana 1750-1830, pp. 9, Louisiana State Museum, Jesse Poesch.

An American Rococo Carved Rosewood
Half-Tester Bed, mid-19th c., New Orleans, accompanied by the original
bill of sale from Prudent Mallard, 53-55 Royal Street, to J.W. Hincks,
and noted “paid for my daughter Jenny Hincks with her money, J.W. Hincks.”
The pierced crest atop the gadrooned canopy with stylized vegetal
scrolls, supported by tall posts framing a headboard, the pediment
decorated with scrolls, shells and swag, the front bulbous legs
terminating in tazza-form urns, with conforming carved rails, top
probably with original upholstery, approximate measurements: height 126
in., length 88 in., width 61 in. Sold on September 30, 2006 for

A Rare Louisiana Cypress Armoire, 18th c., found in Natchitoches, having a heavily molded cornice above a pair of molded edge paneled doors; interior shelves and raised on blocked feet; retaining fiche hinges, and with pegged construction of the type referred to as “winged”, height 65 in., width 61 1/4 in., depth 21 in.
Note: This French Canadian style armoire is very similar to a rare buffet illustrated in Louisiana French Furnishings 1700-1830, Art Center for Southwestern Louisiana; from the McCay collection in Cloutierville, Louisiana

An American Rococo Carved Rosewood
Duchesse, mid-19th c., found en suite with the preceding lot, New
Orleans, accompanied by a copy of the bill of sale, the mirror with
typical egg-shaped cartouche, surrounded by scrollwork and a garland,
framed by shell pattern supports, resting on a marble top, the bowfront
table on cabriole legs adorned with vegetal forms and another center
medallion, the X form stretcher of foliate scrollwork, topped with
campagna urn, height 82 1/2 in., width 41 in., depth 23 1/2 in.

A Rare Stanilaus Fournier Regulator Clock, mid-19th c., enamel dial, marked “S. Fournier, New Orleans”, the mahogany case with carted cornice, arched glass panel door now on a conforming stand, height 72 in., width 24 in., depth 14 in.
Provenance: Collection of Frank and Eileen Kemp, New Orleans
Note: Clockmaker Stanislaus Fournier came to New Orleans from France in 1841 or 1842. His pre-eminent shop at 60 Royal Street was a French Quarter landmark.
Fournier’s accomplishments include the three-faced church clock installed at St. Louis Cathedral in 1851, the development of a four hand stopwatch for horse racing in 1855, and the invention of a “tell-tale” register clock in 1857.
Fournier died in 1853 and is buried in New Orleans’ St. Louis Cemetery No. 1, Vault 24.
