Manheim Galleries’ furniture inventory included a signed Louis XV ormolu-mounted commode (lot 519) selling for $36,800, an English bibliotheque (lot 516) selling above estimated value at $35,650, a Louis XV console (lot 1297) selling for $12,650, and an 18th-century commode (lot 659) selling for $17,250.

The Manheim Galleries’ jade collection received attention from many international bidders. A white and apple green lidded vase with fine fruit and vine carving (lot 469) sold for $13,225. A spectacular landscape-motif vase with jade chain and attached figure of an ox (lot 488) sold for $25,300. An early 19th-century baluster-form white nephrite vase (lot 490) sold for $18,975.

Fine art included an 1876 painting by Josephine Calamatta (France, d. 1893) titled Playing with the Kitten (lot 528) selling for $13,225. A marble sculpture by Giovanni Maria Benzoni (Italian, 1809-1873) titled A Young Girl and her Dog (lot 534) sold for $16,100. An 18th-century portrait of a lady (lot 601) sold for $5,463. A portrait of Lady Dormer and her children (lot 1232) attributed to Sir Peter Lely (British, 1618-1619) sold for $9,488.

Manheim provenance chandeliers and mirrors made an impressive contribution to the sale. A George III-style mid-19th century sixteen-light cut crystal chandelier (lot 187) sold for $33,350. A twenty-light bronze dorč chandelier from the mid-19th century (lot 92) sold well over estimate at $12,650. A verte peinte and giltwood trumeau mirror from the mid-19th century (lot #1293) sold for $6,325.

American furniture from various collectors performed extremely well. A Duncan Phyfe sideboard, c. 1810-1825 (lot 782) sold for $13,375. An American Classical mahogany chest by a New York maker, c. 1800-1825 (lot 784) sold for $3,450. A Federal mahogany banquet table, c. 1800-1820 (lot 785) sold for $9,775. An American Classical mahogany and birdseye maple secretary bookcase, c. 1810-1825 (lot 793) sold for $5,750. A mid-19th century American Rococo rosewood roll-top desk by a New York maker (lot 801) brought $10,063.

The sale was also highlighted by Tiffany glass from regional estates. A Tiffany Studios “Lily Pad” lamp circa 1910 (lot 893) sold for $107, 250. A set of six Tiffany favrile glass sherbet dishes (lot 892) sold for $9,488.

American paintings from various collectors performed well including African-American painter Ellis Wilson’s (1899-1977) Machine Shop (lot 947) sold above estimate for $29,250, and another Wilson work, Bamboche (lot 948) sold for $13,800. A runaway hit was the watercolor by Florida artist James Ralph Wilcox (American 1855-1915) titled Florida Landscape at Sunset (lot 990) that sold for $8,338.
