Amanda Mantle Winstead, Senior Appraiser, Fine Arts, has been a part of Neal Auction Company since 1996. Previously employed as the Director of Consignments and Appraisals and the Director of Paintings, Winstead has played an important role in the growth of Neal Auction Co. into a major regional auction house. A specialist in American and European paintings, Newcomb pottery, and American silver, Winstead takes special interest in the art of the American South. Her myriad discoveries and work in this area have been an instrumental part in the development of the current market for Southern Regional art.

Ms. Winstead has appraised and sold tens of thousands of works of art and antiques and has appraised fine and decorative arts totaling well in excess of $100 million. She has worked with many important museum collections, institutions, estates, and private collectors. Among the notable collections sold under her direction are the Charles and Susan Murphy Collection of Newcomb Pottery, the inventory of Manheim Antiques of Royal Street, New Orleans, and property from the Old Spanish Custom House on Moss Street, New Orleans. Some of the museum collections appraised by Ms. Winstead include the LSU Museum of Art in Baton Rouge, the Paul and Lulu Hilliard University Art Museum at the University of Louisiana-Lafayette, the Masur Museum of Art in Monroe, the James K. Polk Presidential Home in Columbia, TN and the Walter Anderson murals at the community center in Ocean Springs, MS. She has made many important painting discoveries and has been instrumental in bringing notable works to auction. In the spring of 2000, she discovered a painting by the 19th c. Austrian artist Eugene de Blaas in Shreveport. The painting sold that June at Neal Auction Company for a record $484,000.

Ms. Winstead has a Masters of Business Administration from the A.B. Freeman School of Business at Tulane University and a Bachelor of Arts in Art History from Newcomb College. She attended the Museum Studies and the Arts Program of the Washington Semester Program at American University in Washington, DC and completed the Certificate Program in the Appraisal of Fine and Decorative Art at New York University. She is a Member of the Appraisers Association of America.
